Erin McEvoy: What does the new research on CaFi reveal about its digestive health benefits for adults, and more recently, children and the elderly?

Dr. Samjay Tamoli: Yeah, last year, we had only one study, which was done on the adult population, individuals who are between the ages of 20 years to 40/45 years of age. But then one of the challenges that Senna had was it was not very safe for people who are above the age of 60 years old. And that challenge was an opportunity for us, I would say, to develop something which is much safer for the old age population, of about 60 years to 80 years of age. And that’s how we designed one study, and conducted this in last year where we found out that Cassia Fistula, that is CaFi, was found to be as effective as Senna in terms of efficacy, in terms of the frequency of bowel movement, softening of the stool and straining reduction. At the same time, the people who are experiencing lot of side effects or lot of adverse effects. Consuming Senna, like, for example, dependency or habit forming and pain, gripping, exhaustion, etc, that was not observed in our clinical study on CaFi and people were very comfortable. The participants who were there in the study found it very comfortable to take Cassia Fistula, that’s CaFi extract, and they didn’t find any kind of side effects like gripping, etc, or the pain in abdomen. Most important thing was they were very happy, because it was very soft to their bowel and they really happy about about this extract.

McEvoy: How does the Cassia Fistula fruit extract compare with Senna?

Dr. Tamoli: Yeah, so in terms of comparison with Senna, as I mentioned earlier, was that a lot of Senna’s content, it’s very hard on the bowel, specifically on the colon. It takes a lot of water out of your system, and that’s how it makes the stool loose and watery. And also, at the same time, when it’s taking out water from the intestine, it also takes out certain salts which are essential, like potassium and sodium, and that’s what causes the gripping and the pain in abdomen. You also have lot of exhaustion, which troubles patients a lot. In Cassia Fistula, because of the low sennosides content and a very high mucilage content in the ingredient, it does not cause these kind of gripping, etc, because it does not remove the water content out. The mucilage is what is the differentiator between Senna and Cassia Fistula. That’s the biggest benefit that we are able to derive because of a cafe as an extract.

McEvoy: Can you talk about the versatility of CaFi and how it can be used in different dosage formats or in combination with complimentary ingredients?

Dr. Tamoli: Yeah, so the best part about about CaFi is that it’s a fruit pulp extract. And because of it being a fruit extract, it’s sweet to taste. The sweetness is very palatable, very highly palatable. Unlike Senna leaves, which are very bitter to taste. And because of the palatability and the water solubility of this fruit pulp extract, it goes very easily into different dosage formats, like lozenges, like gummies or liquids, chewable tablets, tablets, capsules and things like this. The taste is the big differentiator, I would say, to mix it in various ingredients, like if you even if you want to formulate something like a probiotic or a prebiotic drink, you can easily put this ingredient into into your formulation, which will not only help in cleaning of the stomach or the abdomen, but at the same time, it also gives you that palatable, highly palatable taste. That’s what is the big difference.
